Lyrics
When We Were Drifting
Lyrics by Ted Horrell
I thought we had a plan when we set out on the road
You thought I had the map, but I didn’t know which way to go
You didn’t mind and I didn’t care where we wound up
Or what we found
Over the river and into the woods
To and fro and hither and it felt good
Turn off the clock with the radio low and unfamiliar
Looking around
If there was an exit than I must’ve missed it
Got into some things we weren’t expecting to find
We’ve always done better when we were drifting
Around in our minds
Everyone said not to wander about
We were warned that some folks who went in never came back out
When we departed we left with a shout but now it’s quiet as we move about
There was something peaceful about being lost
There wasn’t a victim there wasn’t a cost
There was only you and me and the feeling we had tossed our cares away
At least for a day and a night
If there was an exit then I must’ve missed it
Got into some things were weren’t expecting to find
We’ve always done better when we’re drifting
Around in our minds
Next time there’s an exit I’ll try harder to miss it
Let’s get into some things we’re not expecting to find
We’ve always done better when we’re drifting
Around in our minds
